Amsterdam Light Festival 2018 - IF.THEN.ELSE.
2018
IF. THEN. ELSE. ETHICS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA. Social media taking an greater important role in our lives. Our dependence on the media is increasing. Also the knowledge of the media about the users is increasing. Swim with this development? We are not caught up in the algorithms? We lose our freedom by global data?
Is there another route possible? Can we still back swimming? We are already caught or swimming will still around? The medium is the message.....to understand the current world, one needs to understand the media. The canal boat is now a big fish and swims in the trap. The visitor sails through 4 zones. Temptation, the FishTrap, the Scan and the Message. With color, light and special effects we told is our story about ethics for the Social Media. Depicted with symbols from the Social Media, the Google colors, a reflective trap, an abstracted light scan and a cautionary message in red light. Seen from the street is the bridge over the Herengracht an lightartwork in the environment. Studio Op&er wants to make a monumental statement for the preservation of our freedom with the IF.THEN.ELSE artwork for the Amsterdam Light Festival. Now and in the future. With simple constructions and (waste) materials we try to achieve a maximum result. Wood, transparent colored plexiglass, scaffold tube, old fishing nets, luminous paint and different types of LED lights are the materials which applied. The various components are prefabricated and later in parts assembled and disassembled. The artwork is resistant to stormy, wet and freezing weather.

The Scandinavian Stools
2017Within the circular economy, we strive for a reduced load on the environment. Sustainable production is a basic requirement, but also the reuse of products is now increasingly common. The ultimate goal is to create a society in which all waste is reused for new products, made with generated sustainable energy. This is the only way to keep the Earth livable and pass on to future generations. To visualize the reuse of existing materials and to bring it to the attention of a larger audience, we have chosen to design a series of stools made of old tiles with a wooden seat. With this design, we make clearly that it is possible to reduce the tax on natural reserves within the circular economy. And that in combination with a functional and aesthetic design, which can be applied in representative spaces such as in an office- and project environment.

Amsterdam Light Festival - Cogito Ergo Sum
2017AMSTERDAM LIGHT FESTIVAL. Cogito ergo sum - lighting in dark times. The first light emerge after the big bang, almost 14 billion years ago, as light and matter can escape and can move freely through the space. Light gives heat, safety.....the possibility to grow ... but light also ensures that we humans can communicate with each other. Communication is a essential part in the development and survival of humanity. In times of sickness and in health. For example in the 18th century, at the time of emergence of the Enlightenment. It was a response to the dogmatic faith of authority. The Enlightenment is seen as one of the pillars of Western civilization and put major changes to start of thinking about religion, philosophy, art, science and politics. She comes up for a division between Church and State and is based on justice and democracy. Cogito Ergo Sum - I think, therefore I am - is a philosophical statement of Rene Descartes. The ruling is the foundation for the Enlightenment. Surviving truths can prove to be false, and also your own perception can cheat you. You wonder how you can know something for sure. The simple fact that you doubt, implies that you exist. THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE: The big bang. A flashing light. Symbol for the birth of our solar system. Light as the source of our existence. Followed by an explosion of knowledge. Lighting. The word. The reason. Cooperation. The core of our existence. Made visible in a construction built up like a beacon. A beacon of light in the uncertain current time.

Fiets-Bord
2015Design "fiets-bord" for the Rijksmuseum Award 2015. Holland is a bicycle country. In Amsterdam the bike is one of the most important ways of transport. And the Rijksmuseum is the only museum in the world where a cycle path runs through. This unique position is for us a reason for the design of a "fiets-bord". This design is also a nod to the difficult relationship that the Rijksmuseum had with the Amsterdam cyclist during the renovation of the museum. Although this resulted in a special and successful design of the new main entrance for the Rijksmuseum.

The design is inspired by the history of our distant ancestors who long ago with trunks the rivers gravitated. The bank isdesigned in accordance with the cradle to cradle principle, so that the materials can be reused in the future. lamp - clock Dark side of the moon
2014A design of studio Op&er for a lamp with a time display. The theme of the design is see and not see. The lamp is inspired by a moon cycle which is depicted in an hour. The varying brightness and colors of light provide different and special atmospheres into the interior. The lamp can be used in public spaces such as museums, restaurants and other public buildings, but also in spacious private homes. The relationship time and moon phases dates back to ancient times. One certain based on the lunar cycle and the seasons when it was the appropriate time to seed, to make sacrifices, or parties to celebrate. The lamp runs a moon cycle from a month in 1 hour. On the whole hours you can see the full moon, on the half hours the new moon. A small digital clock displays the correct time in the image. The dimensions of the lamp are from 2.5 x 2.5 metres and more. The lamp is made of a thin display with OLED technology. Software projects the light with clock at the screens.
the Light Bin
2014Prototype the Light Bin for the ARC 14 Furniture Award. Reuse an office chair. The question of the ARC14 AWARD for a new design. An office chair is a functional design. The chair shall fulfil many requirements, effective and is usually inconspicuous designed. The chair is quickly exchanged for a new one at defects or wear. We views and disassembled an old office chair. In the design the parts are processed in another piece of furniture, that can be used in an office or catering environment. The beautiful, robust chassis is the basis for a candle. This part is well suited for a second life. Using other recycled and natural materials we’re putting the emphasis on reuse. The bin stands for throwing away. By placing the candle and remains of the chair in the bin, we show that waste material can be reused. The Light Bin is a special candle with appearance.
