A design for the monument of the birthplace of Erasmus in Rotterdam. Theme: the world is my home.

For centuries Erasmus birthplace was a busy tourist attraction, nowadays it’s a parking lot. The idea is to transform the existing space into a monumental green court in the city. A place for reflections. The design for the monument in the court is an abstracted facade of Erasmus’s birthplace. The sculpture is in the place where the backside of the house was. In the evening the sculpture is ablaze at the backside, so it creates a facade of light in horizontal and vertical lines. The court is enclosed on 3 sides by linden, that makes the surrounding buildings from the direct sight. A plane with low green buxus shows the drop shadow of the facade. Opposite the monument are benches between trees.
